The Core Method sm

                 The Core Method sm uses published performance data to rank mutual funds on a monthly cycle. Using this data and ranking method , identify the funds that are the best performers over an extended period of time.

This produces a list of  “best” funds which we publish for a small fee.

The non-professional can use this list as a basis for making appropriate investment decisions.

Use this list to find out what is working NOW, based on  the performance of the biggest investors in the financial markets: the Mutual Funds in the USA. (Unit Trusts outside the USA).

 

Mutual fund performance data is updated daily and is freely available on the web or in any newspaper with a financial section.

 

The Core Method sm looks for consistency of performance this way:

            Rank all mutual funds in order of best performance in several time periods:

           Sort the lists to see which funds appear in the top 40 in more than one time period.            Remember that CONSISTENCY COUNTS; the better managed funds will appear in the top 40 in more than one period. The more appearances, the more consistent the fund is performing.

          

            You can stop here if you wish and just buy the top two or three funds in each category. Hold them as long as they go up in value and sell them when they stop going up. Better still, consult with your investment professional on a selection appropriate for you.

 

           Use The 5% Rule sm or a variation as  an exit rule (see sidebar)

THE 5% RULE sm

 

Check the price of your investment at least once a week. If the price is LOWER than the last time you checked, note down that previous high price.

 

If the price drops 5% below that previous high, consider the security a candidate for replacement.

 

Replace the investment with cash or another investment with better prospects IMMEDIATELY if the price has dropped 8% below the previous high. Do not hesitate, act immediately.
